Tourism Recovery Toolkit

The summer of 2020 is certainly one of the strangest summer seasons we will ever experience.  The global COVID-19 pandemic has immeasurably disrupted our lives and affected our families, our businesses, and the way people think about traveling.

There is pent-up demand for travel in Michigan and throughout the Midwest, and Visit Muskegon – along with our local tourism and hospitality partners – seek to build visitor confidence in our area as a safe, wide-open, one-tank  destination with a variety of activities for  visitors that will provide them with the safety and security they expect. But we must also be mindful of this commitment to health and safety, not only for the visitors and patrons of our businesses, but also the staff serving them and the residents of our community.

Lifting Stay-At-Home orders will not immediately bring back our tourism and hospitality economy, as people will still be apprehensive to travel and attend group gatherings like meetings, trade shows, festivals and events.

But Muskegon County is strong and has been through downturns before, so to demonstrate our community’s resiliency, Visit Muskegon developed an online toolkit to aid in the recovery efforts underway locally and to convey positive messaging, while at the same time encouraging travelers to make a return visit to our communities.

Participation in the Renew, Reconnect, Revisit campaign below is encouraged among local tourism partners in this outward messaging, and will lead to a unified voice for Muskegon County’s tourism and hospitality businesses and attractions. Our most important objective is to build confidence in the traveling public that Muskegon County is working together to overcome the obstacles the crisis has wrought on our community, the United States, and the world. When we can travel again, this unified message will demonstrate that we care about and are ready for visitors in Muskegon County.

Visit Muskegon hopes you, your families, and your staff remain healthy during the crisis, and we stand ready to assist your business in this comeback; please let us know if you need assistance in your messaging or marketing as we continue on the road to reopening our communities.

Renew: A new beginning as we emerge from the global crisis

Reconnect: Reconnect with family, friends, business associates, and your favorite activities and events

Revisit: Revisit this community we call home, and invite others to come back to see all Muskegon County has to offer

As a way to convey unity during this unprecedented time, we encourage tourism businesses to use these logos to show that we are ready to renew and revitalize our businesses, reconnect with our community and revisit tourism in Muskegon County.

This is an open source logo, but we ask that you review and follow the brand use guidelines. Click Here to download the guidelines. Organizations or individuals who do not abide by these guidelines will be contacted to make corrections or discontinue using the branding. "The quote of the day was from one of our coaches: “You were laying flatter on the straightaway than any other pedestrian I’ve seen, and you had perfect form. Don’t do that because you don’t know what you’re doing yet.”

He was right. I had no idea what I was doing....Terrified, I kept chanting to myself, “Life is living outside of your comfort zone.”

Of course, it helped tremendously that my loyal cheerleader was right beside me luging for his first time, too. We both made the podium, placing 🥉 during our respective time trials. I slid into a third place finish in the women’s division with a time of 21.582 seconds.

It was exhilarating and frightening at the same time. Who knew that my first medal of the season would be from the luge?
