World War 2 Mitchell Bomber
World War Two B-25 Mitchell Bomber to Visit Muskegon County Airport
Rosie’s Reply is coming Saturday August 21, 2021
This August, Yankee Air Museum is excited to send its prized B-25 bomber “Rosie’s Reply” to Muskegon, a city that knows how to honor its World War Two heritage. The plane, formerly known as Yankee Warrior, will arrive at approximately 10:00AM on Saturday, August 21, 2021. The crew will be offering Air Adventure rides throughout the day. Muskegon County Airport is located at 99 Sinclair Drive, Norton Shores, Michigan 49441.
“The good people of Muskegon are a shining example of how to pay tribute to The Greatest Generation,” said Yankee Air Museum President Kevin Walsh. “It is a great honor for Yankee Air Museum to fly our authentic B-25 to a community that understands its significance. The USS Silversides, the LST 393, and the World War 2 Veterans Project, we know this is a community that understands the value of preserving history.”
“Rosie’s Reply” will visit Muskegon on Saturday, August 21st. The aircraft is of incredible dual significance to both military and civilian history. It was built largely by thousands of women on the home front collectively known as “Rosie the Riveter.” But it is also one of only two surviving B-25 bombers with combat experience. The aircraft was based out of Corsica and flew eight missions over Italy in 1944. “Rosie’s Reply” thus honors both the courageous men who fought for freedom abroad and the determined women who entered the industrial manufacturing workforce to bring their loved ones home and prove that “We Can Do It!”
The magnificent aircraft will not only be available to see up close but also, amazingly, for visitors to book rides and take a flight. The Yankee Air Museum is able to take up to six riders at a time to sit where combat crews sat and experience the thrill of flying on a very rare aircraft. “The best way to comprehend the awesome power of this machine is to feel the engines roar to life underneath you,” said Walsh. “There’s no better way to experience history or see Muskegon’s naval artifacts from the air than a ride on Rosie’s Reply!”
Air Adventure rides would begin at approximately 12:00PM and continue into the afternoon. Air Adventures are an experience of about 35 minutes and cost $425.00. An aircrew of four operates the plane carrying up to six passengers. The B-25 cruises at about 160mph at approximately 1200 feet providing spectacular views.
