About Lori McElrath-Eslick: As a Kendall grad, and one of the few who was hired by Hallmark Cards in Kansas City as a greeting card artist, they demand that level of all the artists that they recruit and hire from around the country, and world, so she worked hard all of her working artist life to create art to the best of her skills. Now as a children’s book author and illustrator, she has illustrated 20 plus picture books a few are also in watercolor. That said, to paint at any level is to have fun. Art should be about having fun. Her art is now in many collections public such as: Frankel Heart Center, University of Michigan DeVos Children’s Hospital Grand Valley State University, Board of Education California State Board of Education Lucas-Toledo Public Library, Toledo, OH Sprint Corporation, Overland Park, KS Kerlan Collection, University of Minnesota MAZZA MUSEUM, University of Findlay, Findlay, OH. Her work has received many awards such as: Best Magazine Illustration National Award from the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, Twice, and Runner Up 4 times. Exhibited in the Society of Illustrators and Annual, 4 times, Society of Illustrators, NY Degas Award, Midwest Pastel Society Catherine Wolf Award, Catherine Lorillard Wolf Exhibit, National Arts Club, NY Bologniafiere Illustrator Exhibit & Annual, Bologna, Italy, and Japan. She loves to paint with Library patrons or at ART Centers, as well as all generation classes as those attending wish to have some fun painting in watercolor, which is a medium that she has used for many of the greeting cards that I’ve illustrated. The patrons and I splash paint together, and loves to show participants a new thing or two about watercolor, while not stressing about being a beginner or someone who regularly paints in watercolor, as every time we paint we can learn something new!
