Flag Retirement Ceremony

November 8 @ 11:00 am

Share this:

Saturday, November 8 at 11:00am, the USS Silversides Submarine Museum will be having a Flag Retirement Ceremony. The Flag of the United States of America is a symbol of freedom and liberty which many of us fly at our homes, our businesses and in our communities.  Over time, though, a flag may become faded, torn or shredded.  When the flag we love and cherish has served its useful purpose, it should be destroyed, preferably by burning.  On Friday, November 8, Flag Day, a color guard representing V.F.W. Post 446 will be conducting a flag retirement day at the USS Silversides Submarine Museum.  They will burn them respectfully on Friday beginning at 11:00am.  The ashes of the flags will be buried at a later time on their property and marked by a commemorative brick honoring these American treasures.  Please feel free to drop your flag off at the museum during our business hours between now and then, and they will take care of the proper disposal of your flag. For more information call 231-755-1230.
