Crater Lake: The Gem of the Cascades

August 17

Discover the natural wonder of Crater Lake National Park with author and former park ranger Rod Cranson at the White Lake Community Library, Wednesday, August 17th, at 6pm. Established in 1902, Crater Lake in southern Oregon is one of the oldest national parks in the system. The major attraction is a caldera, the remains of a large collapsed Cascade Volcano that is half filled with water to form the deepest lake in the United States. Rod served as an interpretive ranger for seven summer seasons in the park studying the geology, presenting evening programs, leading hikes, and narrating boat tours on the lake. His presentation is based on his book, Crater Lake, the Gem of the Cascades, a popular rendition of the park’s geologic story.
