Calvin University’s January Series
The January Series cultivates deep thought and conversations about important issues of the day in order to inspire cultural renewal and make us better global citizens in this world.
We invite you to join us in the Beardsley Theater at the Frauenthal Center as a remote location for this FREE 15-day lecture series. The series takes place each January on the campus of Calvin University weekdays January 10-28, 2022 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. EST.
Thursday, January 13: Reuben Miller
“Halfway Home: Race, Punishment, and the Afterlife of Mass Incarceration”
Like he does in his book Halfway Home, Reuben Miller will help us explore the American justice system with a critical lens as he shows how parole is structured to keep classes of Americans impoverished, unstable, and disenfranchised and leaves men, women, and communities fighting a system designed for them to fail. He unpacks laws, rules, and regulations that extract a tangible cost not only from those working to rebuild their lives, but also our democracy.
