It’s going to be a “firecracker” of a fun Fourth of July weekend here in Muskegon County!
And here’s everything you need to know.
Will There Be Fireworks?
Yes! As part of the WeDiscover Festival in Downtown Muskegon, Melrose Pyrotechnics plans to launch about 3,500 the fireworks from the Morris Avenue/Third St parking lot next to the Social Security Administration. The extravaganza is expected to begin at 10:25 pm, Saturday July 3rd.
On July 4th, wander to the White Lake area for the White Lake Fourth of July Fireworks. Sponsored by the Montague Whitehall Rotary Club, the Fireworks will begin at dusk at the north end of White Lake.
Will There Be Special Events?

🎆 Add some art to your weekend; Thursdays are free at the Muskegon Museum of Art. This summer the galleries honor women in the arts… including the Bennet Prize which is HUGE! The winning female artist received $50k!
🎆 The Deck, located at Pere Marquette Beach, offers an upper and lower deck. Former shipping containers create a raised deck/walkway with a music stage, seating and even swings! What better way to take in the view? Head to the lower beach deck for walk up bars and food service, games, a souvenir shop and to dig your toes in the sand. This weekend live music includes:

🎆 Fourth of July weekend will be an Independence Day Celebration like none before when Hot Import Nights brings the WeDiscover Festival to Downtown Muskegon. What’s really cool about this event? If you go to the Hot Import Nights website, the cities hosting this festival are Honolulu, Los Angeles, Dallas….and Muskegon!
The Festival will encompass multiple city blocks of Downtown Muskegon and Beachfront of Lake Michigan over the Fourth of July weekend.
The main event will be held Saturday, July 3 with a three-day modified and exotic car show, electronic dance music festival, food vendors, the new social drinking district, food truck alley, urban art installations and a massive firework festival by Melrose Pyrotechnics. Cars will be parked along Western Avenue.
Two stages will be set up for the EDM music festival with the likes of Nurko, Kim Lee, Shannon Williams and Choff performing on the Main Stage and DJ Miami and Nicki Nell on the Burl and Sprig Stage.

🎆 The Annual Heykoop Veteran Memorial Car Show & Benefit will be in full swing at the Mart Dock on the shores of Muskegon Lake. General Admission is free. Guests can also expect food trucks, 50/50 and 60/40 raffles, live auctions, raffle bags, merchandise, demonstrations and a DJ all day! This car and motorcycle show benefits Lighthouse for Veterans and the fight against Veteran suicide.

🎆 While you are Downtown, bring the little ones to the Lakeshore Museum Center for July Saturdays: Fur Traders Cabin. Here they can explore objects in a fur traders’ cabin, check out tools that were used, find out what a powder horn was used for, how fire was started, and why beavers were so important to the early settlers.

🎆 Prefer nature’s fireworks? Join the Muskegon Astronomical Society for their Star Party! Gaze up at the wonders of the night sky through their telescopes. Note: The event is dependent on the weather and clear skies. If it is cloudy, the event will be canceled.

What About Parking in Downtown Muskegon?
Arrive early and be prepared to pay to park (a great way to support a local cause!).
Western from 5th to 1st Street will be closed starting Friday at 3 pm. The closure also includes the side streets of 1st, 2nd, and 4th from Western to Clay. Also closed will be Third St. from Clay Ave to Morris St. The 5th Annual Heykoop Veteran Memorial Car Show and Benefit will be taking place at the Mart Dock on Saturday, so there will be no onsite/paid parking.

What If I Gotta Wee?
- The Visitors Center located at 610 W. Western Ave will be open Saturday from 10 am – 4 pm
- Port-a-potties will be available on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, Morris and Western in Downtown Muskegon.
