West Michigan Symphony "Beethoven and Blue Jeans: Rhythmic Energy "
Kinetic energy pulsates throughout this concert. Wagner called Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony “the apotheosis of the dance,” and infectious rhythm is the hallmark of his most heart-poundingly exciting masterpiece. Rossini’s sprightly and mischievous Overture to The Thieving Magpie opens the program. As a co-commissioning orchestra, the WMS presents the Michigan premiere of the concerto On a Wire by the great American composer Jennifer Higdon (blue cathedral), written for and performed by the cutting-edge chamber ensemble eighth blackbird. The concert is at 7:30 p.m. at the Frauenthal Center for the Performing Arts (corner of Third and Western in Downtown Muskegon). Tickets available at the www.westmichigansymphony.org, the Frauenthal Box Office Monday - Friday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Startickets 800-585-3737. www.westmichigansymphony.org

Muskegon Civic Theatre Presents "The Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat"
This delightful musical is the biblical saga of Jacob’s favorite son, Joseph, and his coat of many colors. Joseph is sold into slavery by his envious brothers and is taken to Egypt. When he rejects the amorous advances of his master’s wife, Joseph lands in jail. However, when news of his gift as an interpreter of dreams reaches Pharaoh, Joseph is on his way to success! His brothers, who have fallen on hard times, come to Egypt to seek help and do not recognize their brother. After testing his brothers’ integrity, Joseph reveals his true identity, leading to a reconciliation of the sons of Israel. Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles from country-western, to calypso, to pop, and rock and roll, this Old Testament tale is timeless. Performances are at the Frauenthal Center for Performing Arts, 425 W. Western Avenue in downtown Muskegon. Thursday, Friday, Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. Sunday Matinee times are at 3:00 p.m. For tickets, StarTickets (800) 585-3737 or www.startickets.com or the Frauenthal Box Office (231) 727-8001. www.muskegoncivictheatre.org

Flippers, Buzzers and Bells: Pinball Machines from a Michigan Collector
Countless collectors worldwide, West Michigan included, enthusiastically treasure pinball machines. Flippers, Buzzers, and Bells, organized by MMA staff, will exhibit as many as ten machines, primarily from the 1980s and 1990s. They have been selected (with an eye to art museum aesthetics) for their design savvy, sound quality, and cultural significance. But it’s not all hands-off! This MMA show will identify the Museum as a major center of summer fun in Muskegon. Through the collector’s generosity, two of the machines will be available for play during regular MMA hours, so come on in and show us your pinball wizardry! Underwritten by AGS. Museum admission is $5 (free admission on Thursday.) The Muskegon Museum of Art is located at 296 W. Webster in Downtown Muskegon. For more information call 231-720-2570. www.muskegonartmuseum.org
