Summer Celebration Musical Act
Summer Celebration continues with a stellar line up with Counting Crows. They became an overnight sensation in 1994 when the released "Mr. Jones". Hits include "A Long December", "Hangin'' Around", "Big Yellow Taxi", "Daylight Fading", "Round Here" and the hit from Shrek 2 "Accidentally in Love". Wild Sweet Orange will open for Counting Crows. This Birmingham, Alabama rock outfit released their debut album, We Have Cause to Be Uneasy, last year. Their unique blend of folk/rock will e a great compliment to the evenings show. The concert will be at Heritage Landing in Downtown Muskegon. Echoes of Ireland
Take the rich comic blarney and guttersnipe grit of Emerald Isle storytelling royalty Frank McCourt and Malachy McCourt, mixed with the Magic of Ireland's timeless culture of music, song, and dance and you have Echoes of Ireland. This production feature these sparkling spoken word of world renowned raconteur brother Pulitzer Prize winner Frank McCourt (Angela's Ashes, 'Tis, Teacher Man) and seasoned actor/activist/author Malachy McCourt (A Monk swimming), in collaboration with The Magic of Ireland - a unique, interactive, musical must-see audience experience that leaves sold-out houses on their feet cheering for more. Whether you're Irish or not, Frank McCourt and Malachy's McCourt's masterful memories of childhood and beyond, will simultaneously tug and tickle your heart strings, be it in the dank streets of Limerick, Ireland, or the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple's Brooklyn. Summer Celebration Musical Act
Headlining tonight will be rock legend, Billy Squier. Despite having scored a string of rock anthems and power ballads in his career, success did not come quickly for Billy Squier. The band also transcended racial and cultural barriers with a multi-ethnic line-up. While their hit list is extensive, some of their most recognizable songs include, "Spill the Wine," "The Cisco Kid," "Low Rider," "Why Can't We Be Friends," and "Summer". Saxophonist, keyboardist, and composer, Edgar Winter starts the evening at 6:00 pm. Cinema Sunday: Spirit of the Beehive
The Muskegon Museum of Art is pleased to present this new series of film screenings that focus on exploring the art of cinema. Today's film is Spirit of the Beehive - El expiritu de la colmena (Dir. Victor Erice, 1973, 99m Spanish with English subtitles). Ana, a dreamy six-year old girl, lives with her poor family in the haunting calm after the end of the Spanish Civil War. Enraptured by a viewing of the film Frankenstein, she begins a magical fascination with the monster, which unexpectedly comes to life for her in the form of a fugitive Republican solider. A captivating portrait of a young child's understanding of the adult world. The film begins at 2:00 pm at the Muskegon Museum of Art (296 W. Webster Ave in Downtown Muskegon). The programmer and host: E.J. Hamacher. The movie is free with museum membership or with museum admission. For more information call 231-720-2571. www.muskegonartmuseum.org

LST 393 Movie on Deck
Summer continues with this great tradition of a movie on the deck of the LST 393. Tonights movie is Steamboat Bill. As Bill Sr. goes about toughening up his foppish son, Junior is busy falling for -- who else? -- King's daughter (Marion Byron). The kids attempt to defuse the rivalry, but when Bill Sr. ends up in the clink for decking J. J., the lovebirds have their work cut out. This movie is un-rated. The Drifters
The Drifters are truly unique in today's world of coming and going popular music groups. From their first release on Atlantic Records, "There Goes My Baby," they were bound for stardom with a two-million seller under their belts in their very first try. Over the next ten years there were 29 additional chart-hitting records producing nearly 20 million sales of singles and over 8 million albums in the US alone. Only the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and The Bee Gees have sold more records over a more sustained period of time. Other hits include, "Under the Boardwalk," "On Broadway, " and "Save the Last Dance for Me". The soulful, sensitive sound of Linwood Peel are inspired by legends. Memories of Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Otis Redding, Teddy Pendergrass, and Bobby Bluebland echo in the stylish phrasing of this incredible performer. Born the son of a North Carolina sharecropper, his early voice was shaped in the church his father pastored. His deep gospel roots gave birth to a strikingly unique and powerful entertainer. Linwood Peel, was the lead for the Drifters and the Elsbeary Hobbs Drifters since the 1991-1992 season. The original members of the Drifters have all passed away, but the Linwood Peel Drifters tribute group's lead singer sang with one of the groups for many years. Not only does the group perform many of the very popular Drifters tunes, but also an abridged potpourri of other nostalgic standards. The concert is free to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Muskegon. You must have a ticket to enter the show. Ticket give-a-way begins at 10:00 am on June 23rd at the Frauenthal Box office. Limit 2 tickets per person. The show is at 7:30 pm at the Frauenthal Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Muskegon. For more information call 231-722-9750. www.muskegoncounty150.com

The Woman in Black
The Howmet Playhouse is pleased to present The Woman in Black by Susan Hill, adapted by Stephen Malatratt and directed by Jeff Sanders. Eel Marsh House stands tall, gaunt and isolated, surveying the endless flat salt marshes beyond the Nine Lives Causeway, somewhere on England's bleak East Coast. Here Mrs. Alice Drablow lived - and died - alone. Young Arthur Kipps, a junior solicitor, is ordered by his firm's senior partner to travel up from London to attend her funeral and then sort out all her papers. His task is a lonely one, and at first Kipps is quite unaware of the tragic secrets which lie behind the house's shuttered windows. He only has a terrible sense of unease. And then, he glimpses a young woman with a wasted face, dressed all in black, at the back of the church during Mrs. Drablow's funeral, and later, in the graveyard to one side of Eel Marsh House. Who is she? Why is she there? He asks questions, but the locals not only cannot or will not give him answers — they refuse to talk about the woman in black, or even to acknowledge her existence, at all. So, Arthur Kipps has to wait until he sees her again, and she slowly reveals her identity to him — and her terrible purpose. The Woman In Black treads in the footsteps of the classic ghost story, following the tradition of Charles Dickens and M.R James, of Henry James and Edith Wharton. It is not a horror story or a tale of terror, yet the events build up to a horrifying climax and instills a sense of horror. It relies on atmosphere, a vivid sense of place, on hints and glimpses and suggestions, on what is shadowy, heard and sometimes only half-seen, to chill the reader's blood to the marrow and make reading the book alone at night inadvisable for the faint-hearted. Come see this chilling ghost play, if you dare, starring Tom Harryman and Jeremy Meier. The play begins at 7:30 pm. The Howmet Playhouse is located at 304 South Mears. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Whitehall City Hall from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Tickets may also be purchased at the Playhouse Box Office on performance day at 5:00 pm.
